MTO Annual Safety Inspection Checklist — 90 points, explained.
This is the same 90-point checklist our licensed technicians use on every annual inspection. Print it, use it before a blitz, or bring it in and we'll walk through it together.
Brake System
- Brake stroke measurement (pushrod travel) on every wheel
- Brake lining/pad thickness vs. minimum spec
- Slack adjuster operation (manual and automatic)
- Air chamber integrity and mounting
- Air system pressure test (cut-in, cut-out, leak-down)
- Compressor and governor operation
- Air dryer cartridge condition
- ABS/EBS warning lamp function
- Spring brake parking system
Steering & Suspension
- Steering wheel free play
- Tie rod, drag link, kingpin wear
- Power steering fluid level and condition
- Leaf spring condition (cracks, offset, U-bolts)
- Air bag suspension: bags, height valve, ride height
- Shock absorber condition and mounting
- Frame and crossmember integrity
Tires, Wheels & Hubs
- Tread depth (minimum 1.5 mm steer and drive)
- Sidewall condition (bulges, cuts, regrooving limits)
- Tire inflation and valve stems
- Wheel nut / lug torque
- Hub oil level and seal condition
- Bearing end-play check
Lighting, Electrical & Glazing
- Headlamps (high and low beam aim and function)
- Tail, stop, turn signal, and marker lamps
- Reflector condition and placement
- Clearance and identification lamps
- Wiring harness condition
- Windshield condition (crack zone measurement)
- Mirror condition and mounting
- Wiper and washer function
Exhaust, Emissions & Frame
- Exhaust system mounts, leaks, and condition
- DPF / DOC condition and status
- Emissions sensor function
- Fifth-wheel coupling (slack, jaw, pin)
- Frame, crossmember, and coupling device integrity
- Load-securing equipment (chains, straps, stakes)
